Message From Marcus on the Election
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It is with great pleasure that I announce the election of the New Beginning slate as our new executive board. The newly elected officers, to be installed upon the decision by General President Hoffa to lift the trusteeship, thank all those who participated in this historic election. While that decision may be some time in coming, I want to thank all of the members for taking this first important step toward autonomy and democracy.
On behalf of myself and my running mates, Sue, Frankie, Tom, Abi, Dave, and Bill, we also thank you for your confidence in entrusting your local union administration to our care. As your President-elect, I assure you that our motto will be taken from the oath of office that now awaits us, that "it is the members who put (us) here, and it is the members whom (we) will serve".
As the interim Trustee for our local union, I have endeavored to open up this union, bring it back to the members, strengthen it through greater transparency and membership participation, and organizing. As your President I will continue that program with the assistance, of the great group of officers that you have chosen to lead our local. There is no limit to what we can achieve with your help, support, and participation.

Over 80 valets, dispatchers, and cashiers at Tropicana Casino and Hotel, voted by a nearly two-to-one margin to be represented by Local 331 on Saturday May 16th in an election supervised by the National Labor Relations Board.

As all of you know by now, the Teamster contract was overwhelmingly ratified by the members at Cologne on the second of April. We are now working on getting the contract fully implemented as soon as possible. A letter from the regional manager is posted in the bulletin board indicating the raises will become effective the week of May fourth. The retroactive checks will be due shortly thereafter.

Fenerty and/or attorney Aneesah El-Amin-Jaamia of Willig, Williams, & Davidson are available starting at 2:00 pm before every general membership meeting for consultation (remember November and December meetings are the third Wednesday, not the fourth as usual). Even if your company does not participate in the Legal Fund, you are still entitled to a free initial consultation. If you have a personal legal problem or need, inlcuding wills, divorce, real estate or other matter, take advantage of this important benefit. That's Wednesdays before each membership meeting at 2:00.
