Message From Marcus

Happy Teamster New Year!  Every new year, it's customary to look back at the passing year's accomplishments and setbacks, and to make new resolutions for a successful and prosperous year to come.  For Teamsters Local 331, the year 2009 was both extremely challenging and extremely rewarding.  January saw the inauguration of a new President of the United States, Barack Obama.  With that inauguration comes the hope of real Health Care reform, card-check organizing law (Employee Free Choice Act), and the salvage and rebuilding of what's left of the American economy.

Our Teamster Local rose out of trusteeship with the approval of bylaw amendments and the contested election of a new executive board, of which I am proud to be a part.  We went on to successfully defend and implement the first ever contract for 220 school bus workers in Cologne.  At the same time the IBT trusteeship was lifted and self-government restored to the Local.  Finally, we negotiated the best possible price for the impending sale of our Pleasantville property, and narrowed a wide spread search for a new location to a building in Egg Harbor City.

The coming year 2010 looks to be as promising and challenging as 2009.  So let's make our resolution together, to make 2010 another Teamster year for all of us.  To unite like never before, to work for a better economy NOW, and to fight for Teamster families everywhere.  Soon we will have a new Teamster home and a new look for this website to match the progress we are making.  Don't forget the next meeting is January 27th, and we are looking forward to starting the new Teamster year together with YOU.

In solidarity,

Marcus King, President Local 331

General Membership Meeting December 16, 2009

About sixty members gathered together at the Union Hall on December 16th for food, fun, fellowship and a little serious union business, too.  After a special presentation from the Union's architects, the membership voted unanimously to continue to move forward with preparations to purchase and renovate the property in Egg Harbor City for our new union hall.  After the business meeting, members mingled over drinks and food for the last meeting of 2009.  (The new meeting schedule for 2010 was also approved.)  Brad Yeakel won $105 in the drawing and donated it back to the Local Union Social Fund.
