International Trustee Marcus King and International Field Rep Bradley Yeakel recently attended a special strategy meeting at Teamsters Headquarters in Washington DC. Top department heads and staff specialists were assembled to offer any and all support and assistance to the success of the Atlantic County Teamsters Local. Top of the Agenda: ensuring a victory for Atlantic County Teamsters fighting off a raid attempt by the UWU, a small public sector union based in Hammonton. The Teamsters International pledged to bring in the "cavalry" and back up the local's staff plan to protect the members from this and future raid attempts. Another long-range priority is a new strategic approach to casino organizing with a team of International organizers and negotiators that specialize in the casino and hotel industry. Casino construction is accelerating and we need to be a part of that growth, especially here in Atlantic County. Finally, Marcus and Brad had a personal meeting with Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa. Brother Hoffa reiterated his commitment to success here in Atlantic County and shared some exciting opportunities for the local to shine in the near future. The General President's marching orders included winning the representation election in Atlantic County, increasing organizing, especially in casinos, school buses, and more, and restoring the local's pride in being Teamsters. A demanding challenge, to be sure, but with the might of the International Teamsters and the determination of our Atlantic County members, we can do it! |
