Brother Marcus King (International Trustee) conducted the meeting. The Financial report was read and this report will be read at each membership meeting. The first concern in this area is getting the dues situation under control so that all information and dues are current. The purpose and reason for taking a withdrawal card when not working was also covered. The eventual sale of the building was discussed.

The Business Agents ( Brad Yeakel, Bubby Walker, and Sue Taylor ) gave their reports. Many members requested visits from the agents to the worksites -- to the members -- not just the shop stewards. Brother King indicated this is a priority and will be addressed along with the immediate steps that must be taken to properly represent the members. Please understand that the Agents have a lot on their plate with the Trusteeship and are not ignoring anyone.

A question and answer session was then held by Marcus. Issues included the need to form several committees to review the By-Laws and Constitution of the Local. This is a busy time for all involved as we " lay the foundation at the same time we are trying to repair the roof". Other issues include a raid on one of our worksites. There will be an election in Feb. because of this and Atlantic County workers have been put in a dangerous position.

Given the current state of the economy there is no doubt the County would love the opportunity to renegotiate the members contract with a small one horse entity. The contract they agreed to (but not yet implemented because of this election) is awesome for our members ..... especially in light of rising health care costs and the downtrend in the regional economy.

The construction members will have a craft meeting in the near future to address several issues in their industry and hopefully resolve them. There were also some questions concerning Health & Welfare benefits and Severance / Retirement Funds. If at all possible there will be a representative from the Health and Welfare Fund at our next meeting. Due notice will be given of any "guests" who will be present.

Several members discussed the need for training and certification in other job descriptions so they would be more employable. Brother Marcus agreed to address this request. Overall the mood was very positive and it is obvious that the members pride in their Local is a great asset upon which to build for the future. A special Thank You to Sue Taylor for a fantastic meal and desserts. The standing room only crowd of more than 120 members appreciated her efforts and talents.

See you Next Month!
